Eloise's story
Hi, I’m Eloise. I work as a lung diagnostic clinical nurse specialist at Guy’s and St Thomas, and I am deeply committed to enhancing the well-being of those affected by lung cancer. I feel incredibly grateful to provide specialist support to patients and their loved ones at the beginning of their lung cancer journey.
When I started in my role, I was fortunate to begin alongside my colleague Aynslie Cunningham, a mental health nurse specialist in lung cancer, who shares my passion for advancing care for lung cancer patients. Together, we have had many discussions about gaps in the service and how we can best support patients. It became particularly clear to us that, given the long wait times for talking therapies and psychological support, we needed to focus on what additional services we could offer to provide emotional support for patients and their loved ones.
We began researching local and trust-run support groups and developed a plan to establish a lung cancer support group. We had heard of the wonderful work being done by Nicky and the team at the Everybreath charity, so we arranged an informal visit to their support group. We were overwhelmed by the warm welcome and the success of this inspiring community, where kindness, advice, support, and fun come together. After meeting Nick, Nicky and Emma, they expressed their enthusiasm for supporting our vision to create a lung cancer support group in Lambeth and Southwark, and thus Everybreath Lambeth and Southwark was born.
We are now building our own community of patients and their loved ones, and are proud to offer this support to every patient diagnosed with lung cancer. I am excited to watch the group grow and honoured to contribute to such meaningful support for patients and their families.
